HyperSol Mining Case Study

Cleaning Program for underground heavy equipment provides environmental, operational and safety benefits. 

A gold mining operation in Northern Quebec, was using solvents to clean grease and dirt from their heavy equipment underground. This caused a hightened concern with the miners and HSE department as these solvents were flammable, requiring the steel drums to be segregated and properly grounded. 
The spent solvents were rinsed into the underground sumps where they combined with the recycled water, resulting in the emulsification of the oil and grease. The underground thickener was impacted negatively causing the slimes and solids to float rather than sink, resulting in the intermittent carry over of solids and dissolved metals. 

To minimize the risk to the miners’ health and safety as well as the negative environmental impact, Evergreen Solutions recommended using HyperSol to replace the solvents previously used in the heavy equipment cleaning process. 

The new HyperSol program easily removed the oil and grease from the heavy equipment, reducing the cleaning time by 75%. The spent HyperSol was rinsed into the sumps with no negative impact on the water treatment system. In addition, HyperSol is non-flammable and is shipped in plastic containers eliminating the need for grounding when transferring product.

MegaSol Oilsands Case Study

Major oilsands producer finds significant value through reduced cleaning times and overall plant & vehicle turn around using MegaSol.

When a major oilsands producer contacted Evergreen to help engineer a safe & effective product we worked closely with that customer developing and improving this product until they were fully satisfied with the results. The stated expectations of this customer was to have a product that would effectively
• Reduce hazardous chemical exposure
• Reduce cleaning times
• Reduce chemical usage
• Reduce wash bay TCO
• Reduce slippery floors
• Eliminate chemical residue left on the equipment after cleaning
• Improve performance on hydraulic greases, and other heavy oils when other contaminants are present

Using MegaSol, an already field-proven chemistry, our lab technicians responded to the feedback from the wash bays tweaking the formulation to ensure optimal performance. Through this helpful feedback together with ongoing customer support the desired outcomes were achieved and reported with the following results.

LubriSol Case Study

Machine shops in Timmins, ON find LubriSol to exceed expectations in both performance & safety in 3 month trial across multiple machining operations.

Several machine shops in Timmins, Ontario had reported an accumulation of rust and bacteria growth on their drill presses, lathes, milling machines and cut-off saws from the various coolants & tapping fluids used in those operations. It was also reported that these fluids were leaving a slimy film on the equipment requiring extra cleaning time to remove.

Evergreen Solutions introduced LubriSol, an aqueous lubricant and cooling fluid designed to provide superior lubrication and heat dissipation in various machining operations. With its ability to support high dilution rates, LubriSol was utilized in several applications throughout the shop to replace the multiple products causing the challenges mentioned above.

After a 3 month trial period using LubriSol
at dilution rates ranging from neat to 30:1 the
following results were reported:
• Tapping fluid = Undiluted
• Drill presses = Diluted 10:1
• Cutt-off saws = Diluted 20:1
• Lathes & milling machines = Diluted 30:1
• Lubrication & coolant requirements met or
exceeded customer expectations

LevaSol Case Study

Cleaning program for underground heavy equipment saves time and provides safer environment for miners.

A Northern Ontario mining operation was using a caustic cleaning product to clean their underground heavy equipment. Great care had to be taken to avoid skin contact as this product was very corrosive and the users complained of respiratory tract irritation with the strong fumes associated with its use.

While it was reported that the product worked well, it unfortunately left a film on the haul truck and scoop tram sensors. These sensors allow the equipment to be operated remotely and this film significantly reduced the ability of the operators to run the equipment safely. To avoid a potential accident with equipment not responding properly, the miners were required to clean each sensor by hand, adding significant down-time for each piece of equipment

To minimize the health & safety risk posed to the miners and maximize the efficiency of vehicle maintenance, Evergreen Solutions recommended using LevaSol for all heavy equipment cleaning and degreasing. LevaSol has no fumes, is safe on skin and rinses completely free leaving no residue or film on the clean surfaces and sensors.

LevaSol was applied with a foaming sprayer to increase contact time on equipment surfaces, optimizing chemical usage and ensuring efficient distribution of the cleaning solution. LevaSol easily removed the oil and grease while rinsing totally free leaving no film behind. This resulted in a significant savings in time as the miners did not have the added step of wiping down all the sensors. With LevaSol’s free rinse and the sensors now clean, the risk of accident or injury from loss of remote connection due to filmy sensors was eliminated.
